Our Mission
365 Days, 365 Films connects commemorative days with cinema to make society visible through storytelling.
Complex issues—robot ethics, social justice, environmental challenges, human rights—are often difficult to fully grasp through words alone. But when we experience these ideas through film, they become concrete, emotional, and shareable.
Cinema allows us to feel before we analyze. That shared emotional experience becomes a foundation for deeper understanding and dialogue.

365 Days, 365 Films は、記念日と映画を結びつけることで、社会をストーリーテリングを通じて可視化するプロジェクトです。
ロボット倫理、社会正義、環境問題、人権といった複雑なテーマは、言葉だけでは捉えにくいものです。しかし、それらを描いた映画を観たとき、抽象的だった概念は感情を伴う「実感」へと変わります。
映画は、考える前に「感じる」体験を与えてくれます。その共有された感情こそが、理解と対話の出発点になると私たちは考えています。
What We Do
Every day of the year has meaning.
From Global Family Day (January 1) to World Logic Day (January 14), from Isaac Asimov’s birthday to lesser-known international observances—each date offers an opportunity to reflect on our world through cinema.
For each commemorative day, we select a film that resonates with its theme and publish an in-depth review (8,000–10,000 words) exploring:
- Historical and cultural context — how the film connects to real events and social movements
- Social and ethical themes — environment, technology, power, dignity, responsibility
- Cinematic craft — direction, cinematography, sound, performance
- Why it matters today — the film’s relevance to contemporary society
Our reviews are not summaries. They are records of how cinema helps us understand society—and ourselves.

地球家族の日、世界論理の日、作家や思想家の誕生日、忘れられがちな国際デー——それぞれの日付は、映画を通して世界を見つめ直す入口になります。
私たちは、各記念日にふさわしい映画を選び、8,000〜10,000字に及ぶ詳細なレビューを執筆します。
それは単なるあらすじではなく、映画が「今の社会」とどのように響き合っているのかを記録する試みです。
Why Films?
Film is a universal language of emotion and experience.
A single scene can express what long explanations cannot. When we watch WALL·E, we don’t just learn about environmental collapse—we feel the loneliness of an abandoned Earth. When we watch Big Hero 6, we don’t just think about robot ethics—we experience what it means for technology to care.
Shared cinematic experiences allow people to discuss difficult questions—Should AI have rights? What responsibility do we have to future generations?—with nuance, empathy, and imagination.
Cinema doesn’t just inform. It reshapes how we see the world.
なぜ映画なのか
映画は、感情と体験の普遍的な言語です。
一つのシーンが、何ページもの文章よりも多くを語ることがあります。『ウォーリー』は環境問題を「説明」するのではなく、孤独として体験させます。『ベイマックス』は技術倫理を「理解」させるだけでなく、ケアとは何かを感じさせます。
同じ映画体験を共有した人々は、難しい倫理的問いにも、抽象論ではなく共感を伴って向き合うことができます。
About the Author
The creator of 365 Days, 365 Films has a background in law and interdisciplinary research, bridging humanities and sciences.
Drawing on this perspective, each review approaches cinema not only as art or entertainment, but as a social document—one that reflects the values, fears, and hopes of its time.
With over 250 reviews completed and a long-term commitment to pairing every day of the year with meaningful cinema, this project treats film criticism as an archive of collective thought.
The author writes in both English and Japanese, believing that cinema can build bridges where language alone cannot.
