[English] Debra Granik is an American independent film and documentary filmmaker known for her social realist narratives that explore marginalized communities and personal resilience. She is best known for Winter’s Bone (2010), which launched Jennifer Lawrence’s career and earned four Academy Award nominations including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay, and Leave No Trace (2018), which holds a rare 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes as the most reviewed film at that rating. Granik studied politics at Brandeis University and began working in grassroots media movements in Boston before earning her MFA in film directing from New York University. Her work is characterized by extensive research, non-judgmental portrayals, and collaborations with non-professional actors from the communities she depicts.
