[English] Makoto Shinkai is a world-renowned Japanese animation director and novelist, celebrated for his breathtaking background art and poignant stories of distance and connection. After starting his career in the video game industry, he stunned the anime world in 2002 with Voices of a Distant Star, a “one-man production” created almost entirely on his personal computer. Following indie successes like 5 Centimeters per Second, he achieved a global breakthrough with Your Name. (2016), becoming a box office phenomenon.
