Synopsis /

[English] Charlie, a reclusive online writing instructor living in an isolated Idaho apartment, has spent years hiding from a world that he feels has no place for him. Weighing approximately 272kg (600lbs) and suffering from severe congestive heart failure, he lives a sedentary existence, tethered to his sofa and his regrets. Distant from his ex-wife and deeply estranged from his sharp-tongued teenage daughter, Ellie, Charlie senses his time is rapidly running out. In a final, desperate act of paternal devotion, he reaches out to Ellie, hoping to find a spark of the “amazing person” he believes her to be before the curtain falls. The film poses devastating yet vital questions: What does it mean to be truly honest with oneself? Is redemption possible for those who have caused irreparable pain? And can a life be judged as meaningful through a single, ultimate act of faith in another?
