In a near-future Britain ruled by a fascist, totalitarian regime, the population lives in a state of constant surveillance and fear. The story follows Evey Hammond (Natalie Portman), a young woman rescued from the clutches of the secret police by a mysterious, masked revolutionary known only as “V” (Hugo Weaving).
V, an erudite and highly skilled combatant, is orchestrating a grand campaign to dismantle the government. His ultimate goal is to destroy the Houses of Parliament on November 5th—Guy Fawkes Night—to awaken a citizenry long enslaved by state-manufactured terror. As V executes a series of targeted strikes against corrupt high-ranking officials, the State Broadcasting Network (BTN) works tirelessly to manipulate information and suppress the truth.
Amidst this chaos, Inspector Finch (Stephen Rea) leads a desperate investigation to uncover V’s identity, only to stumble upon a horrifying conspiracy that birthed the masked vigilante. The film poses profound and provocative questions.
