Every year on March 11, World Plumbing Day celebrates an infrastructure so fundamental to modern life that we rarely think about it—until it stops working. This international observance, established by the World Plumbing Council in 2010, recognizes how plumbing creates a global network of skilled professionals, pipes, and standards that connect people everywhere to health, opportunity, and each other.

Modern plumbing is not merely about convenience; it is a public health profession that has saved more lives than perhaps any other innovation in human history. By safely delivering clean drinking water and removing wastewater, plumbing systems prevent disease-causing microbes from contaminating homes, streets, and water sources. Yet billions of people worldwide still lack access to these life-saving systems.

World Plumbing Day highlights the critical role plumbing plays in protecting public health, ensuring access to clean water, maintaining sanitation, and building sustainable communities—while honoring the skilled professionals who make it all possible.

• Economic prosperity: Every $1 invested in water/sanitation yields $4.30 in economic benefits (UN)
• Job creation: 3 of 4 global jobs depend on water availability (UN); each job in U.S. water sector creates 3.68 jobs nationally
• Sustainable transition: Plumbing drives sustainable water management by connecting technology, professional expertise, and global best practices

The 14th World Plumbing Conference (UK, June 2026) will explore “Worldwide Problems – Global Solutions,” bringing together industry leaders to address water scarcity, quality, and sustainability challenges.
