Synopsis / あらすじ

Thirteen-year-old Johnny Kapahala has the perfect life: surfing Hawaii’s North Shore waves with his legendary grandfather Johnny Tsunami, surrounded by sunshine and aloha spirit. But when his father’s computer job relocates the family to freezing Vermont, Johnny’s paradise is lost. At his new preppy private school, students are divided: the wealthy “Skies” who ski, and the working-class “Urchins” who snowboard—and never the two shall meet. Caught between two worlds, Johnny discovers that snowboarding is just surfing on snow, befriends the Urchins (especially Sam, his loyal new best friend), and becomes the first “prep” to cross enemy lines. When conflict erupts between the rival groups, Johnny must prove that courage, friendship, and finding common ground matter more than social status. With his grandfather’s wisdom guiding him, Johnny learns to ride the mountain—and life—his own way.
