36-Year Sequel Development History

Top Gun sequel development was announced by Paramount Pictures in 2010. Tom Cruise was requested to continue alongside co-producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott. However, in 1990, Cruise himself had stated: “Making Top Gun sequel would be irresponsible.”

Peter Craig wrote script draft in 2012, but project stalled when director Tony Scott died by suicide later that year.
