【English】 1965, Selma, Alabama. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (David Oyelowo) spearheads a pivotal campaign to secure equal voting rights. Despite the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Black citizens in Southern states remained systematically disenfranchised through discriminatory practices. To challenge this injustice, King orchestrates a non-violent march from Selma to Montgomery. On March 7, a day later known as “Bloody Sunday,” peaceful marchers crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge were brutally assaulted by state troopers. The televised images of this violence shocked the conscience of the nation. Undeterred, King organizes subsequent marches, ultimately mobilizing a movement that changed history. This film masterfully depicts the arduous struggle for the ballot, King’s complex leadership, and the profound courage of countless ordinary individuals. It compels us to ask: What is the true weight of a vote? What is the essence of the Civil Rights Movement? And what, truly, is democracy?
