[English] Jean-Pierre Jeunet is a French filmmaker whose visual style defines the “cinéma du look” tradition. He blended animation and surrealism to enchant the texture of Parisian life. After co-directing Delicatessen (1991) and The City of Lost Children (1995) with Marc Caro, and directing Alien: Resurrection (1997) in Hollywood, he achieved international triumph with Amélie (2001). The film became the most commercially successful French-language film at the time, capturing hearts worldwide and earning five Academy Award nominations, four César Awards, and the European Film Award for Best Director.
