Inside the human body, some 37 trillion cells work day and night to keep us alive — red blood cells ferrying oxygen, white blood cells battling invading germs, platelets patching up wounds. This live-action adaptation of Akane Shimizu’s hit manga (blended with its grittier spin-off Cells at Work! BLACK) unfolds across two contrasting inner worlds: that of Nikko Urushizaki (Mana Ashida), a health-conscious high schooler living with her father after her mother’s early death, and that of her father Shigeru (Sadao Abe), whose smoking, drinking, and junk food have turned his insides into a bleak, overworked wasteland. As a rookie red blood cell (Mei Nagano) and a stern white blood cell (Takeru Satoh) go about their duties, pathogens begin to stir — and when Nikko is struck by a grave illness, the cells face the fight of their lives. Director Hideki Takeuchi (Fly Me to the Saitama) turns human physiology into a spectacle that is by turns hilarious, educational, and quietly moving.

人間の体内では、約37兆個の細胞が、私たちの命を守るために日夜働いています。酸素を運ぶ赤血球、細菌と戦う白血球、傷口をふさぐ血小板——。清水茜の大ヒット漫画（およびシリアスなスピンオフ『はたらく細胞BLACK』）を実写化した本作は、対照的な二つの体内世界を並行して描きます。ひとつは、母を早くに亡くし父と暮らす健康的な高校生・漆崎日胡（芦田愛菜）の体内。もうひとつは、喫煙・飲酒・ジャンクフードで体内を荒廃させた父・茂（阿部サダヲ）の、過重労働にあえぐ「ブラック」な体内です。新米赤血球（永野芽郁）とクールな白血球（佐藤健）が任務に励むなか、病原体が動き出し、やがて日胡を襲う深刻な病を前に、細胞たちは体内史上最大の戦いに挑みます。『翔んで埼玉』の武内英樹監督が、人体の生理学を、笑いと学びと感動に満ちたスペクタクルへと昇華させた一作です。

Source & Adaptation / 原作と脚色
The film adapts two manga: the main series Cells at Work! by Akane Shimizu (serialized in Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Sirius) and its spin-off Cells at Work! BLACK, drawn by a separate team — Shigemitsu Harada (story) and Issei Hatsuyoshiya (art) under Shimizu’s concept, serialized in Morning. The film’s original addition is the parallel “human world” drama of the Urushizaki father and daughter, which does not appear in the source manga. / 本作は二つの漫画を原作としています。清水茜による本編『はたらく細胞』（講談社「月刊少年シリウス」連載）と、清水の原案のもと原田重光（原作）・初嘉屋一生（作画）が別チームで手がけたスピンオフ『はたらく細胞BLACK』（「モーニング」連載）です。原作にない映画独自の要素として、漆崎親子の「人間世界」のドラマが加えられています。
Note on Medical Supervision / 医療監修についての付記
In July 2026, original author Akane Shimizu publicly stated that during the manga’s serialization the promised medical-supervision system was not adequately put in place, despite her repeated requests; publisher Kodansha acknowledged these shortcomings and issued an apology. This context concerns the original manga’s production, not the film itself, but is noted here for accuracy. / 2026年7月、原作者の清水茜は、連載当時に約束されていた医療監修体制が繰り返しの要望にもかかわらず十分に整えられなかったと公表し、講談社はその不備を認めて謝罪しました。これは映画そのものではなく原作漫画の制作をめぐる経緯ですが、正確を期すため付記します。
