Based on the true events of the 2018 Tham Luang cave rescue, Thirteen Lives recounts the extraordinary global effort to save a Thai youth soccer team trapped deep underground. On June 23, 2018, twelve boys of the “Wild Boars” team and their assistant coach enter the Tham Luang cave after practice, only to be trapped when a sudden monsoon downpour floods the passages behind them. As the world watches, Thai Navy SEALs, British cave divers, and more than 10,000 volunteers converge on the site. When the boys are found alive nine days later — nearly two and a half miles inside the mountain — a far greater question remains: how to bring inexperienced children out through miles of flooded, pitch-black tunnels. The answer will demand an unprecedented and perilous plan, and a sacrifice that reminds everyone what is truly at stake. Directed by Ron Howard, the film honors not a handful of heroes but the countless ordinary people whose courage made the impossible possible.
