Synopsis / あらすじ
[English] Shoya Ishida, a boy once driven by reckless curiosity, ruthlessly bullied Shoko Nishimiya, a deaf transfer student, until she was forced to leave. However, the cruelty recoiled upon him, leaving Shoya ostracized and cloistered in his own silence for years. Now a high school student haunted by the weight of his transgressions, Shoya seeks out Shoko once more—not for mere apology, but in a desperate search for redemption. As the two tentatively begin to bridge the gap between them, they find that the scars of the past are deep and that true understanding requires more than just words or signs. The film poses profound questions: What does it mean to truly “listen” to another? Is redemption ever fully attainable? And amidst the cacophony of self-loathing, how does one find the courage to simply “live”?
