Screenplay Background Based on True Story
50/50 screenplay based on screenwriter Will Reiser’s own real experience. Reiser, graduated from Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts in 2003, started career in television industry. Working as associate producer for TV shows including Da Ali G Show, in 2005, age only 25, diagnosed with spinal schwannoma, received harsh notification of 50% survival rate.
After this shocking diagnosis, Reiser underwent surgery and chemotherapy. His best friend Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, also working on Da Ali G Show, strongly recommended Reiser “should make this experience into screenplay” during treatment. Initially hesitant, Reiser completed this work as first screenplay in 2008.
