[English] Paul Rudolf Parsifal “Percy” Adlon (1935–2024) was a German filmmaker, director, and screenwriter who achieved distinct recognition within the New German Cinema movement. After a decade of making over 150 documentaries, he established the production company pelemele FILM with his wife and co-writer, Eleonore Adlon.

His most celebrated works comprise an informal trilogy starring actress Marianne Sägebrecht: Sugarbaby (1985), Bagdad Cafe (1987), and Salmonberries (1991). Among these, Bagdad Cafe became an international phenomenon, winning the César Award for Best Foreign Film and featuring the classic theme song “Calling You.” Adlon’s filmmaking is highly regarded for its unique humanist magic realism, blending quirky charm and surrealist tendencies with stories of marginalized characters who discover strength, healing, and community by banding together.
