Moonlight chronicles the life of Chiron, a Black gay man growing up in a rough, drug-ridden neighborhood of Miami, across three defining chapters—childhood, adolescence, and adulthood—in each of which he is known by a different name: Little, Chiron, and Black. As a bullied, withdrawn boy, he finds unexpected tenderness in Juan, a drug dealer who becomes a father figure, even as his own mother sinks into addiction. As a teenager, a single act of intimacy with his friend Kevin—and the betrayal that follows—hardens him. As a man, having buried his true self beneath a tough exterior, a phone call from Kevin draws him back toward the possibility of being seen, and touched, again. Adapted from Tarell Alvin McCraney’s play and directed by Barry Jenkins—who, like McCraney, grew up in the same Miami neighborhood with a mother battling addiction—the film is a tender, poetic meditation on identity, masculinity, and self-acceptance. It became the first film with an all-Black cast and the first LGBTQ-themed film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture.

Production Notes / 製作メモ
