English
A bamboo cutter finds a tiny, glowing girl and raises her in the lush freedom of the countryside. Believing she is destined for noble greatness, he moves her to a cold mansion in the capital, transforming her into “Princess Kaguya.” Shrouded in silk and stripped of her wild laughter, she resists the suffocating constraints of high society and the advances of noble suitors. As the mystery of her celestial origin unfolds, Kaguya faces an inevitable destiny that threatens to sever her profound connection to the Earth. Isao Takahata’s final masterpiece is a visually stunning meditation on the vibrant joy of living and the heartbreaking weight of social duty.
