A young princess — referred to only as Ann — is on a royal tour of European capitals. In Rome, exhausted and overwhelmed by the relentlessness of her duties, she slips away from the embassy in the middle of the night. Found in a sedative-induced haze on a street bench by Joe Bradley, an American journalist, she is taken back to his apartment. The next morning, recognizing her as the runaway royal, Joe sees the scoop of a lifetime and strikes a deal with his editor for an exclusive. What follows is a transformative day in Rome: the Spanish Steps, a spontaneous haircut, a whirlwind Vespa ride, and the Mouth of Truth. As the sun begins to set, Joe finds himself caught between his professional ambition and the undeniable bond forming with this “ordinary” girl. In a city of eternal history, this one day of borrowed freedom leads them toward a choice that will change them both forever.
