In a future where genetic profiling governs every aspect of life, Vincent Freeman is born the old-fashioned way — without optimization — and classified as “In-Valid” based on the statistical probabilities his DNA suggests: a 99% chance of a heart condition, life expectancy 30.2 years. His brother Anton is engineered and classified as “Valid.”

Everything that Vincent wants — to work at Gattaca Aerospace Corporation, to fly to Saturn’s moon Titan — is closed to him by his genetic profile. He buys the identity of Jerome Eugene Morrow (Jude Law), a genetically elite swimmer who was paralyzed in an accident, and begins the daily, meticulous labor of maintaining the deception. A murder investigation inside the facility threatens to unravel everything. The film is not primarily a thriller; it is the story of a man who refuses to be what his biology predicted.
