Amélie Poulain grows up largely within the rich landscape of her own mind, raised by a cold, distant father and an anxious mother who dies tragically early. To cope with her solitude, she crafts elaborate daydreams and finds immense joy in life’s smallest textures: dipping her hand deep into sacks of grain, cracking the caramelized crust of a crème brûlée with a spoon, and skipping stones across the Canal Saint-Martin.

Now an adult working as a waitress in Montmartre, she remains a quiet observer of the world. One day, she discovers a rusted tin box of childhood keepsakes hidden within her apartment wall. Upon secretly returning it to its owner and witnessing his profound tears of nostalgia, Amélie finds her calling: she will quietly manipulate the threads of destiny, engineering anonymous acts of kindness to mend the lonely lives of those around her.
