Beginning as a child performer, she broke through at thirteen as the foul-mouthed, lethal Hit-Girl in Kick-Ass (2010), a role that announced a screen presence far older than her years, and that same year drew acclaim as a centuries-old child vampire in Let Me In.

Born in Atlanta in 1997 and raised in a large, self-described “very Christian” family with four older brothers, Moretz first encountered acting through her brother Trevor, who became her acting coach, and who—along with her openly gay brothers—shaped her early and lasting advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights.
