[English] Garry Kent Marshall was an American screenwriter, director, producer and actor who created several iconic TV sitcoms and directed numerous hit films. He rose to fame in the 1970s for creating Happy Days (1974-1984), Laverne & Shirley (1976-1983), and Mork & Mindy (1978-1982). As a film director, Marshall became known for romantic comedies including Pretty Woman (1990), Runaway Bride (1999), and The Princess Diaries (2001). He was the brother of actress-director Penny Marshall.
