[English] Ryan Gosling (b. November 12, 1980, London, Ontario) is a Canadian actor, musician, and producer, and one of the most versatile and admired leading men in modern cinema. A former child performer, he joined The All-New Mickey Mouse Club at age 12 — alongside future stars including Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake — and worked steadily in television (Breaker High, Young Hercules) before moving into film. He drew early critical attention as a young neo-Nazi in the independent drama The Believer (2001).

Gosling became a romantic idol with his breakout role opposite Rachel McAdams in the enormously popular The Notebook (2004), then deliberately pursued more challenging, independent-minded work: he earned his first Academy Award nomination for playing a drug-addicted teacher in Half Nelson (2006), and drew acclaim for Lars and the Real Girl (2007) and the raw romantic drama Blue Valentine (2010).
