[English] Fisher Stevens (born Stephen Fisher, November 27, 1963, in Chicago) is an American actor, director, and producer who has built two parallel careers — one in front of the camera, one behind it. As an actor he is widely known for Ben Jabituya in Short Circuit (1986) and its sequel, and in later years for prominent television roles in The Blacklist, The Good Fight, and HBO’s Succession (Hugo Baker). He co-founded the Naked Angels theater company and the production house Greene Street Films.

Behind the camera, Stevens became a notable documentary filmmaker. He won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature as a producer of The Cove (2009), which exposed the dolphin hunt in Taiji, Japan, and earned an Independent Spirit Award for directing Crazy Love (2007). His directing work includes the climate-change documentary Before the Flood (2016, with Leonardo DiCaprio), Mission Blue (2014, co-directed with Bob Nixon), the feature Palmer (2021), and the Netflix series Beckham (2023), for which he won a Primetime Emmy. His deep involvement with films about the sea — from The Cove to Mission Blue — has made ocean and environmental storytelling a throughline of his work behind the camera.
