Gotham City, early 1980s. Arthur Fleck works as a party clown while caring for his ailing mother, clinging to his fragile dream of becoming a stand-up comedian. He suffers from a neurological condition that causes uncontrollable laughter at inappropriate moments, leaving him isolated and misunderstood.

As the city spirals into chaos, Arthur’s own world begins to crumble: he is assaulted on the streets, mocked by the talk-show host he idolizes, and eventually cut off from his medication due to social funding cuts. After a sudden act of violence on a subway train, Arthur finds himself at a terrifying crossroads. The film follows the chilling process by which a broken man is forged into a dark symbol, asking whether his transformation is a final collapse into madness or a liberation of his true, chaotic self.
