October 8, 1970, Cambridge, Massachusetts) is an American actor, screenwriter, and producer, and one of the highest-grossing leading men of his generation, known for his versatility and intelligent, understated performances. He grew up in Cambridge, where he formed a lifelong friendship and creative partnership with fellow actor Ben Affleck, and studied English at Harvard University, which he left before graduating to pursue acting.

After his film debut in Mystic Pizza (1988) and notable early roles in Courage Under Fire (1996) and The Rainmaker (1997), Damon achieved a stunning breakthrough with Good Will Hunting (1997). He and Affleck co-wrote the screenplay — winning the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay — and Damon starred as a troubled working-class math genius, earning an Oscar nomination for Best Actor. He quickly established himself as a leading man, playing the chilling Tom Ripley in The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999) and appearing in Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan (1998).

Damon became an unlikely action star as the amnesiac assassin Jason Bourne in the hugely successful Bourne series (2002–2016), and headlined the Ocean’s trilogy (2001–2007).
