Michael “Eddie” Edwards has dreamed of Olympic glory since childhood. Despite being a skilled downhill skier, he is narrowly rejected for the British Olympic team. Refusing to give up, the working-class plasterer discovers a loophole: Britain hasn’t sent a ski jumper to the Winter Games in sixty years.
With no funding and no proper training facilities, Eddie relocates to Germany to teach himself the dangerous sport of ski jumping. Facing ridicule from the sporting establishment and constant risk of injury, he finds an unlikely mentor in a rebellious American former jumper. Against all odds, Eddie qualifies for the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. Though he finishes last, his unyielding spirit and infectious joy capture the world’s imagination, earning him the nickname “The Eagle.” Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman star in this heartwarming true story that proves the true essence of the Olympics lies not in winning, but in the courage to compete.
