[English] Kumail Nanjiani is a Pakistani-American actor, stand-up comedian, and Oscar-nominated screenwriter. Born in Karachi, Pakistan, he moved to the U.S. at age 18 and completed a double major in Computer Science and Philosophy at Grinnell College.
He gained widespread recognition as Dinesh Chugtai in HBO’s Silicon Valley (2014–2019). His breakthrough creative achievement came with The Big Sick (2017), which he co-wrote with his wife Emily V. Gordon based on their real-life courtship and her sudden medical coma. The film earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Nanjiani has since expanded his career into leading roles, including Marvel’s Eternals (2021) and Hulu’s Welcome to Chippendales (2022).
