[English] Cameron Crowe (Cameron Bruce Crowe, b. July 13, 1957, Palm Springs, California) is an American director, screenwriter, producer, author, and former music journalist, known for warm, romantic, character-driven films deeply intertwined with rock and roll. Raised in San Diego, Crowe was a prodigy of music writing: still in his mid-teens, he became a writer for Rolling Stone, touring with and profiling major rock acts — experiences that would later inspire his most personal film. To research his first book, he went undercover for a year as a student at a Southern California high school; the resulting book became his screenwriting debut, the hit teen comedy Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982).

Crowe made his directorial debut with the beloved romantic comedy Say Anything… (1989), followed by Singles (1992), a story of twenty-somethings set against Seattle’s emerging grunge scene. He achieved his biggest commercial success with Jerry Maguire (1996), the Tom Cruise sports-agent drama that earned five Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, and produced a string of catchphrases that entered the culture.

Crowe reached the peak of his critical acclaim with Almost Famous (2000), the semi-autobiographical story of a teenage rock journalist, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
