March 7, 1970, London) is a British-American actress and producer, celebrated for her intelligence, warmth, and versatility across independent films and blockbusters. Born in London to a mechanical-engineer father and a teacher-and-psychotherapist mother — both European émigrés who had fled Nazi persecution — she studied at Cambridge University, where she co-founded a student drama group. She began her career on the British stage and in television in the early 1990s, winning a London Critics’ Circle Award as a promising newcomer, and made her film debut in Death Machine (1994).

Weisz gained international stardom as the plucky Egyptologist Evelyn Carnahan in the hit adventure The Mummy (1999) and its sequel The Mummy Returns (2001).
